The fourth edition of the FIA European Touring Car Cup, that will take place next week at the Salzburgring, Austria, has already met with a brilliant result: a new record in terms of represented countries.
The entry list that has been unveiled today includes 33 drivers of 15 nationalities who will compete in the event at the wheel of cars built from 10 different manufacturers.
Reigning FIA ETCC Super 2000 champion Michel Nykjær have signed with Chevrolet to race in the 2008 Cup at Salzburgring.
"I have talked to several teams but one of my considerations was that Salzburgring is a very fast track. I believe the Chevrolet Lacetti is very competitive at fast tracks so actually my choice was pretty easy," explained Nykjær.
Like for the first two editions in Vallelunga and Estoril, Yokohama will supply again the control tyres to competitors of the FIA European Touring Car Cup.
The Japanese manufacturer also confirmed the prize money that will be awarded to the drivers of the three categories, Super 2000, Super 1600 and Super Production, for a total amount of euro 165,000.
Michel Nykjær, the winner of the 2007 FIA European Super 2000 Cup, is due to defend his title this year at the Salzburgring. The 27-year old Dane, who claimed victory at Adria in a SEAT León, is currently driving a BMW 320si car for Poulsen Motorsport, alongside team principal Kristian Poulsen, Jesper Sylvest and Emmet O’Brien.
The fourth edition of the FIA European Touring Car Cup will take place on October 19th, 2008 at the Salzburgring, Austria.
This will be the first FIA event at the 4.2 km superfast racetrack located 15 km East of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s home town since twenty-three years, as the Salzburgring used to be a regular venue for the European Touring Car Championship from 1970 to 1985.
The third edition of the FIA European Touring Car Cup was placed in the archives with very positive outcome.
38 drivers from 12 countries took part in the event at the wheel of cars built from 12 different car Manufacturers and delivered two exciting races plenty of action and overtaking.

The Russian drivers continued to dominate the Super Production class. After Alexander Lvov and Timur Sadredinov finished first and second in the 2006 FIA Euro Cup at Estoril, Super Production produced and all-Russian podium in Adria.
